Alice & Jon
When Alice and Jon started planning their wedding, they knew they wanted a venue with a beautiful outdoor space and a fabulous bar! They chose Clock Barn for their early autumn wedding and their day was absolutely perfect.
From the moment Alice and Jon turned onto the glorious driveway that meanders through the countryside towards Clock Barn, they knew that they’d found the perfect venue for their big day:
“Clock Barn was the first venue we saw but we both got such a warm, happy feeling. The beautiful old barn has exposed beams and lots of space yet it’s still small enough to make a wedding feel intimate. It was everything we imagined – rustic, natural and understated yet still completely stunning.” – Alice.
The couple chose a wonderful colour scheme with white blooms, green foliage and touches of pale blue. They also worked incredibly hard to fill their day with lots of adorable personal details:
“We wanted to make sure that our decorations were very personal to us so that they were unique to our wedding. We included a wooden welcome board, with our names and wedding date hand painted on to it, at the entrance to the barn and a wooden box for cards that worked with our relaxed rustic theme.” – Alice.
Alice also made her own confetti by collecting and drying out old flowers and their ‘Better Together’ chair signs were a fabulous touch. There were also garden games in the paddock and lots of fun props for the photobooth.
“Our flowers, by Bloom Bloom, were gorgeous. We added low floral centrepieces to the tables, an old apple crate filled with flowers by the entrance to the barn and a beautiful floral archway above the barn door. There were also statement arrangements on top of wooden barrels on either side of the ceremony table.” – Alice.
Alice found her stunning Pronovias dress at Anya Bridal and the fishtail style was oh-so flattering. However, this wasn’t the style that Alice imagined herself wearing:
“My dress wasn’t something I thought I would go for, which is something you hear so many brides say! The ruffles are something I thought I wouldn’t like but they were very delicate and subtle and added to the wow factor. The dress was lightly embroidered and there was touch of sparkle. I loved the dress because I felt that it really suited my figure and my style.” – Alice.
Alice chose the perfect accessories to complete her wedding day look. She wore her Grandma’s heirloom ring and a pair of diamond earrings that were a wedding day gift from Jon. Alice’s bridesmaids wore floor length gowns from Quiz Clothing in a dreamy pale blue and their slight fishtail styling complemented the bride very stylishly.
“Jon wore a tailored suit from Victor Valentine. He looked amazing on the day! The suit itself was dark blue tweed with brown button details on the arm and he also wore a grey tweed waistcoat with a crisp white shirt. Jon also wore a pale blue knitted tie, which matched the bridesmaids’ dresses perfectly and he finished his outfit with brown leather brogues.” – Alice.
After preparing for the big day at the Norton Park Hotel with her Mum and her bridesmaids, Alice made the journey to Clock Barn for the marriage ceremony. At Clock Barn, Alice’s niece, nine month old Hettie was a flower girl and made quite the entrance to the ceremony – she was pulled up the aisle in a wooden baby carriage by Jon’s niece Erin. It was an adorable, and memorable, moment in a superb day.
“Jon’s sister and my sister both gave beautiful readings during the ceremony. The words in both readings were so meaningful and lovely, it was a very emotional moment.” – Alice.
Alice and Jon were blessed with glorious weather on their wedding day so after the ceremony, everyone enjoyed a relaxed drinks reception in the gardens. The couple treated their guests to Pimms and Strawberry Rose Sangria with refreshing Elderflower Sparklers for those who preferred a non-alcoholic option. At Jon’s request, there was also a beer drum in the garden for guests to enjoy with their canapes before everyone moved inside for the wedding reception and breakfast.
“For our starter, we served scallops and sea bass followed by filler of beef and a dessert of triple chocolate brownies. I have to say that the caterers were just outstanding. Every dish was stand-out and so many of our guests said it was the best wedding food they had ever had. The fillet of beef was cooked to absolute perfection – how you can get that right when you are catering for 92 people, I’ll never know!” – Alice.
The evening party started from the moment guests arrived and after Alice and Jon’s first dance, to Take Over The World by The Courteneers, the dancefloor was packed all night. To make sure that everyone had energy to dance until the final track, the couple had arranged for woodfired pizza to be served.
“One of my evening guests was a vegan and the team made her a bespoke vegan pizza. She said it was the best she’d ever had. There was also a little popcorn stand inside the barn along with the other treats and this was a lovely surprise.” – Alice.
“My favourite moment of the day was seeing Jon’s face when I walked down the aisle. I’d been thinking about that moment for so long and it was more amazing and more magical than I ever thought it would be.” – Alice.
“My main advice to other couples would be to try not to stress out and to enjoy the planning process. Although there was a lot to do, I just tried to embrace every part that I could – after all, it’s the happiest day of your life and I really believe that the planning should be just as much of a happy time as well.” – Alice.
“If I did it again, there is nothing I would do differently, and I know Jon feels the same. We truly embraced the whole experience. We loved every minute and we had the happiest day of our lives surrounded by the people who are most important to us. We couldn’t have wished for anything better.” – Alice.
