Lucy & Matthew
Lucy and Matthew’s rustic early spring wedding at Clock Barn was everything they hoped it would be. Their relaxed, informal day was absolutely wonderful from start to finish.
The Venue
Lucy and Matthew are a very relaxed and laidback couple so it was important to them that their wedding reflected their personalities. Finding the right venue was, of course, high on their list of wedding priorities and Clock Barn gave them everything they were looking for.
“Matthew and I both knew as soon as we walked through the doors of Clock Barn at an open evening that it was the perfect venue for our wedding. The look of the barn is so understated but naturally beautiful – it’s the perfect backdrop for a wedding.” – Lucy
“We knew we wanted and informal day, surrounded by our closest friends and family so that we could enjoy a really intimate ceremony.” – Lucy
The Décor
The couple chose a rustic theme for their day and were keen to keep things simple alongside a colour scheme of pastel purples, pinks and corals.
“We hung straw hearts around the dancefloor to keep that space clear for dancing and we decorated the gift table with LED string lights and lots of Polaroids of Matthew and I along with a white post box for cards.” – Lucy
The wedding flowers, by Tadley Floral Designs, were just perfect for the season. The gorgeous blooms that lined the aisles and sat on the tables were stunning wildflowers, giving a fabulous ‘just picked from the field’ look to the day.
The Outfits
Lucy wore a fantastic Justin Alexander gown, that she found at Bride To Be in Reading.
“I did find looking for ‘the one’ difficult as there are just so many beautiful wedding dresses out there and I ended up spending twice as much as I’d budgeted on a dress that I just couldn’t say no to!” – Lucy
Lucy accessorised her gown with simple drop pearl earrings and her mum also found her an evening bag in Monsoon that perfectly matched the embellishments on the bodice of the gown.
“Matthew and I decided that he would look great in a silver/light grey suit and this worked really well with the lilac colours of the flowers and the bridesmaid dresses.” – Lucy
The bridesmaids themselves wore gowns from Boohoo and these beaded maxi dresses were ideal for all the maids, from the youngest to the eldest.
The Wedding
After their marriage ceremony at Clock Barn, it was time for the celebrations to begin and the party started with a drinks reception that included Pimms and a delicious selection of canapes. From there, guests moved on to a sumptuous wedding breakfast that included some of Lucy and Matthew’s favourite dishes.
“Roast dinners are special to Matthew and I so we started with a smoked bacon Scotch egg and this was followed by sirloin of beef with Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings. For dessert, we chose sticky toffee pudding with caramel sauce as this is my absolute favourite!” – Lucy
The couple and their lucky guests partied on into the night with music from NGB Discos and even more food – mouth-watering pizzas that really were enjoyed by absolutely everyone.
“Our first dance was to Ed Sheeran’s Tenerife Sea as the words really mean a lot to Matthew and I. It definitely wasn’t choreographed but it was so memorable, as was my dance with my dad.” – Lucy
After such a superb wedding, what could be better than an equally brilliant honeymoon so a few days after the big day, Lucy and Matthew flew to Mexico to enjoy an early spring break in the sunshine as husband and wife.
Final Thoughts
“The events team were really so great and made the lead up to the day very simple. They were also happy to answer any questions and I had quite a few! The team are very welcoming and it’s clear they really enjoy their work. On the day, I couldn’t have asked for anything better – smiles all round.” – Lucy
“I had quite a few favourite moments from the day including seeing Matthew for the first time when I came out from behind the screens and our first dance. Ultimately, my favourite moment was walking hand in hand down the aisle with my best friend and husband – it was very emotional, especially with the harpist, Angela Moore, playing my favourite song.” – Lucy
“If I could give any advice, I would say don’t compromise – go for whatever your heart desires as you only get to do this once. When people tell you the day will be over and done with very quickly, it really is true and if I could have done anything differently, I would have made the wedding a two-day affair!” – Lucy
