Mel & Rob
Mel and Rob’s late May wedding was everything they hoped it would be – relaxed and enjoyable with lots of Cornish-inspired details that definitely bought a coastal vibe to Clock Barn.
After searching online for local wedding venues, Mel and Rob set out to visit their shortlist of wedding venues and Clock Barn made their decision an easy one.
“Clock Barn had a real ‘wow’ factor and it’s a stunning location. The Barn itself is a beautiful building and the surrounding gardens and landscape are gorgeous. We also loved The Stable Room – it’s perfect for quieter moments and it was great to have a back-up space if the weather wasn’t in our favour. Clock Barn was impeccable.” – Mel.
The couple wanted a day that put everyone at their ease and really allowed them to enjoy themselves. They also wanted to include details that reminded them of their ‘happy place’, Cornwall.
“I wanted simple, wild Cornish flowers and I knew that my Mum had daisies in her bouquet. Driving through Cornwall before our wedding, the hedgerows were full of daisies so that made my decision for me and Claire at Charmed Events totally understood what I wanted. The flowers worked beautifully against the navy colour our bridesmaids wore and they created a really relaxed and informal bouquet for me.” – Mel.
To bring a touch of Cornwall to Clock Barn, Mel and Rob added wood slices and copper light domes to their tables. There were also large slate table names and driftwood for that beach feel. The light-up letters looked great as did all the photos of the couple, their parents and all their guests.
Mel fell in love with her dress as soon as she tried it on and her accessories created just the look that she wanted. Her Jon Richard hairpiece, diamante bracelets and earrings looked perfectly bridal and her cream heels with a touch of sparkle were the perfect finishing touch.
“Rob wore a gorgeous grey suit from Marks and Spencer with a white double cuff shirt from T. M. Lewin and his cufflinks were decorated with the Cornish flag. Our bridesmaids were in navy, and that was an accidental find! Two of my bridesmaids are quite fair skinned and the dark colour worked beautiful on them and they all looked fabulously grown up.” – Mel.
Mel and Rob held their marriage ceremony at Clock Barn and it was such a special moment. The couple wrote their own vows, which bought more than a little emotion to proceedings, and Mel’s godson also gave a reading.
Following the ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests celebrated in the gardens with drinks and canapes by our expert on-site catering. The mouth-watering menu of canapes including crispy risotto balls, Thai fishcakes and spice potato cakes with a quinoa crust. There were also gorgeous gluten-free options, as requested by the groom, including deep-fried pork belly and poached quail’s egg Benedict. Guests enjoyed berry blush vodka cocktails, beer barrels and apple julep as the perfect accompaniment to their canapes.
Moving on to the wedding breakfast, Mel and Rob’s carefully chosen menu wowed everyone.
“We served pork loin salad, followed by roast rump of lamb and finished with the trio of desserts. The lamb was amazing – we had it at the Tasting Event and made our decision to include it on our menu there and then.”
During the drinks reception and dinner, guests were entertained by a fantastic caricaturist and after the speeches, it was time to hit the dancefloor! Mel and Rob danced their first dance to Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’ and then their amazing band, The Benedicts, made sure that the dancefloor was packed all night long. The evening food was another highlight – a delicious main course whilst a popcorn machine provided the perfect dash of sweetness to the evening.
“The Events Team were amazing and we can’t thank them enough. They were so responsive to all our questions and on the day, everything was seamless. Many of our guests commented on the waiting staff – they were so professional and yet it seemed as if they weren’t there! The whole team was just perfect.” – Mel.
“If I were to give advice to other couples, I would say keep it personal and include things that matter to you, don’t worry about what other people want or expect of you. It’s your day. Also, don’t worry about the little things – there’s nothing you can do about the weather or someone letting you down and there are always ways around things. Trust your suppliers and definitely get a photographer that you feel at ease with.” – Mel.
“Were we to do it all again, we wouldn’t change a thing and my only regret is that we can’t do it all again. It really was the best day ever.” – Mel.
